Our use of bamboo means we are responsible for carbon emissions up to 65% lower than if we had used virgin tree pulp. This means we tick our own boxes when it comes to acting in the face of climate change. Bamboo truly is a miracle material as you can see below in our diagram!
We source bamboo from super sustainable shoots in the forests in China, where there is a surplus of the incredible plant. It is harvested once a year, cutting from above the root to make sure no sequestered carbon is released. As it grows 30X faster than normal trees we like to think of it more as a haircut!
For any of you wondering if this impacts on the panda's food, no need to worry! The bamboo we use as the base of our products is a completely different species - Neosinocalmus Affinis. This species of bamboo grows in a completely different region to that of the panda, with their habitats concentrated in the forests of southwest China, many miles away from the mountainous regions from which we harvest.
Once the bamboo is harvested it is moved to the local pulping factory where the pulp is transformed into big paper reels.
Our factory recycles water in the process and converts steam into electricity.
